Fluent in English, Mandarin, and Taiwanese, he brings unique perspectives to bridging traditional industries with technological innovation. Managing Lawyer (BC), JD

  • Before joining V-Law, Niki practiced at firms in Victoria and mainland BC, handling various matters, including contractual, property, and family disputes. He has represented clients in both the British Columbia Provincial Court and Supreme Court, striving to provide practical, solution-focused advice at every stage of the litigation process. Outside of work, Niki enjoys practicing yoga and reading history. He also volunteers with Lawyers on Stage Theatre.

Yen Nguyen, CPA

Chief Financial Compliance Officer

  • Yen is an accomplished accountant with years of experience in public accounting, specializing in audit, taxation, and management. She's known for her meticulous attention to detail and skill with complex financial regulations. Yen co-founded the Vietnamese Student Association at UBC, helped launch VietFest in Vancouver, served as treasurer for V3 Group, and led the Vietnamese Friendship Society of Fraser Valley as president. Passionate about travel and new cultures, she often draws inspiration from her adventures to enrich her work. Her blend of expertise, leadership, and curiosity makes her a valuable asset in accounting.

With a background spanning startups, finance, car dealerships, and now law, she brings a rare mix of adaptability, professionalism, and a love for order. After exploring different industries, Teresa found her true calling in the legal field—where her sharp attention to detail and commitment to client experience truly shine. With over 14 years of experience in marketing—including 7 years leading teams in the tech—he specializes in demand generation, brand positioning, and scalable growth strategies. Cliff has successfully led multi-million dollar marketing initiatives, optimized digital funnels, and built high-performing teams across B2B and B2C markets. Holding an MBA in Marketing, he is passionate about leveraging data, storytelling, and automation to connect lawyers with clients in meaningful ways. Cliff plays a key role in expanding V-Law’s reach across Canada’s diverse communities, helping legal professionals thrive in the digital age.

Your Questions, Gently Answered

  • Yes. You remain the lawyer of record and maintain your client relationships. Matters administered and billed through V-Law’s systems using Firm resources are treated as Firm clients for administrative and compliance purposes. Clients always retain the right to choose their lawyer, in accordance with Law Society rules.

  • Client continuity is protected. Files administered through V-Law remain with the Firm, but clients may elect to move with you if you leave, subject to Law Society requirements. This ensures uninterrupted client service and ethical compliance.

  • You may work remotely from anywhere. You may only provide legal services in the province(s) where you are licensed and must comply with the applicable Law Society rules in each jurisdiction.

  • Billing is handled through your Clio account, which is included in your plan. Trust accounting, bookkeeping, and reconciliations are managed by the Firm’s accountant and bookkeeper to ensure compliance with Law Society requirements.

  • The Firm provides shared infrastructure and operational support for all matters, including administrative staff, accounting, trust compliance, technology systems, and office services. The revenue allocation supports these resources, allowing you to practice without bearing traditional firm overhead.

  • Support includes financial and trust accounting, legal administrative services, practice management support, technology infrastructure, compliance assistance, optional access to legal assistants and paralegals, and participation in a professional peer community.

  • Yes. V-Law is structured to operate within provincial Law Society rules. You remain responsible for your legal services, while the Firm supports compliance related to trust accounting, file administration, data storage, and communications.

  • Onboarding begins with an introductory call to understand your practice and goals. The Firm then sets up your systems, technology access, and workflows. Training and guidance are provided so you understand how Firm processes and support work.

  • V-Law supports firm-wide marketing initiatives and referral matching where appropriate, but does not guarantee a specific number of clients. Lawyers remain responsible for developing their own practices, with marketing tools and guidance available.

  • Yes. Agreements include defined notice and minimum term provisions, depending on your program. These terms reflect the Firm’s upfront investment in onboarding, infrastructure, and support, while still preserving lawyer autonomy.
