This is V-Law’s privacy policy (“Policy”). It applies to your use of V-Law’s website, social media, blogs and your communications using or accessing those online sites and services (the “Services”).

This policy states how V-Law and its affiliates (collectively, “we”) and/or third parties collect and use information in order for you to be informed when making a decision to use the Services. Please ensure you read the Policy carefully before using the Services or submitting any information to us. If you do not agree with any part of this Policy, you should not use and should stop using or accessing the Services.

Information We Collect

When you use the Services we collect usage information. This includes information on your computer’s IP address (internet protocol address), your operating system, your browser type, the address of a referring website or website that you exit from, the date and time you access or use the Services, items you click on, pages you view and the amount of time you spend on pages.

We also collect information through the use of cookies and similar tracking programs or technology. Cookies are small data files stored on your computer or device at the request of a website that enables the website to recognize previous visitors and retain information on user preferences and history. If you wish to block, erase or be warned of cookies, you should refer to your browser instructions to learn about these functions. Note, if your browser is set not to accept cookies or if you reject a cookie, you will not be able to sign in to V-Law or use some of the Services.

We are not responsible for the information collection practices of any third parties.

We collect and store Personal Information that you provide to us when accessing or using the Services. “Personal Information” means information relating to a person where such person can be or is identified directly from that information. This may include your name, address, telephone number, mobile number, email address, other app ID’s, credit card or other account number. Personal Information does not include aggregated or anonymized information, any publicly available information, or information that is posted to publicly accessible areas of the Services.

For examples of Personal Information, we collect information you provide when you create or update your V-Law account, if applicable, communicate with us, purchase services from us, seek referrals from us, contact, consult or recommend a lawyer, submit any lawyer or peer ratings or endorsements. If you are a lawyer and claim or update your profile or post information for or on your profile we may also collect verification information.

Personal Information you post to public areas of the Services may become publicly available and is no longer considered Personal Information. Your postings to any public areas of the Services constitutes your consent to share such information publicly and you should assume that such information will be widely disseminated, including via search engines and other tools and programs used to locate information online.

How We Use the Information We Collect

Non-personal information such as usage information, information collected automatically through cookies and other tracking programs and technologies, and aggregated or anonymized information, is used for remarketing with Google Analytics, for ad targeting, to analyze trends, to administer the Services, improve customer service, diagnose problems with our servers, track user movement and gather demographic information for aggregate use. Third party ad platforms may use the information for similar purposes, but you should follow up with third parties and confirm their information collection and usage practices. We may freely publish, disclose and use this information to or with third parties.

Personal information is used to facilitate your use of the Services, to process your requests or transactions, to provide you with information, products and services you request, to administer and assist us with the operation of our business, and for the purpose for which the information was provided. We may use the information we collect to send you news relevant to you or news that match your preferences. We may also send you advertisements from third parties. We do not disclose, rent, sell or otherwise make available your Personal Information to third parties for direct marketing purposes.

If we engage third party service providers in connection with our Services, we may share Personal Information with such service providers who need to access such information to carry out their work for us. As an example, we may use credit card processing or verification companies to verify credit card information or to verify your identity. Other than such service providers, we do not share Personal Information with third parties unless you have indicated to us that you wish to receive information from such parties, you otherwise give us your consent to do so, or in response to legally required request for information or other legal process requirement such as a subpoena in a legal proceeding or other proceeding.

We may send text messages for marketing purposes, if you provide your mobile telephone number to us. If you provide your mobile telephone number to us, you consent to the transmission of text messages to such number. This does not prevent you from opting out in accordance with any governing legislation in your jurisdiction.

Managing Your Preferences

We will follow your browser instructions for setting or rejecting cookies for generally available browsers. This is one way to manage the collection of information by V-Law. Also since data is acquired across the internet from other sources, you can manage online advertising preferences via:

  • Other Third Party Analytic Programs

While V-Law will follow such preferences, we do not represent nor warrant such preferences will be monitored or observed by V-Law.

You may select whether or not you wish to continue to receive communications from V-Law by advising by email that you “opt-out” of receiving any category of subscription, marketing or promotional email from V-Law by following the unsubscribe instructions in the emails we send. You may “opt-out” of receiving emails from our affiliates and parties by following instructions in those emails. However, as long as you maintain an account, you may not “opt-out” of receiving service or account related emails from V-Law.

Requests for Information and Disclosure for Enforcement Purposes

We may disclose Personal Information when we are required to or we believe it appropriate to comply with the law; to enforce or apply this Policy or our other policies or agreements; to initiate, render, bill and collect for amounts owed to us or in some cases our lawyers; to protect our or our users’ rights, property or safety; to protect our users from fraudulent, abusive, or unlawful use of the Services; or if we believe that an emergency involving the danger of death or serious physical injury to any person requires or justifies disclosure of Personal Information.

Updating Your Information and Public Posts

You can correct certain information by logging into your account and changing the information, and you may also delete certain information by closing your account.

Please note that in certain circumstances, we may not, or may not be able to, remove or change certain information, even in the event an account is closed. For example, we may keep and continue to display any information you provided relating to a question, answer, endorsement or review. Also, lawyers cannot remove profiles, and cannot remove their profiles, ratings, endorsements or reviews by closing their account or terminating their services with V-Law.

Security

V-Law works to secure Personal Information from unauthorized access, use or disclosure by putting into place reasonable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard the information we collect. When we collect credit card information, we use a secure server with encryption software and store credit card information using encryption methods to prevent unauthorized access. Your account information, if made available, will be password protected.

No security measures are foolproof or impenetrable. To protect confidentiality of Personal Information, you must keep your password confidential and not disclose it to any other person. You are responsible for all use of the Services by any person using your password. You must advise us immediately by email if you believe that your password has been misused. Note that email is not secure and you should not send any confidential or sensitive information to us via an unsecured email.

Links to Third-Party Sites

Our Services may have links to other websites or make available third-party services, including ad platforms and technologies. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or policies of such third parties. We recommend you read the privacy policies of any website or service that collects your information. If you access the Services through another website, we are not responsible for the privacy practices of that website. You should read the privacy policy of the originating website before providing any information.

Our Policy applies solely to information we collect. Any opt-out requests for third party products or services must be submitted directly to that third party.

Transfer of Information

Information on our customers, including Personal Information, may be disclosed as part of any merger, acquisition, debt financing, sale of company assets, as well as in the event of insolvency, bankruptcy or receivership in which Personal Information could be transferred to third parties as one of V-Law’s business assets. In such event, we will attempt to notify you before your Personal Information is transferred, but you may not have the right to opt-out of such transfer.

Minors

Our services are not intended for use by children under the age of 18, and such use is prohibited by our Terms of Use. We do not knowingly collect Personal Information from children under 18. If you become aware a child has provided us Personal Information, please contact us as set forth in this Policy.

Changes to Our Policy

We may change the provisions of this Policy at any time, and we will always post the most up to date version on our website. If we determine, in our sole discretion, that a modification to this Policy materially affects your rights, we will notify you by posting on the V-Law Blog.
